Spring Loaded Technology launches bionic knee brace in North America

MDBR Staff Writer Published 12 June 2017

Spring Loaded Technology has introduced its Levitation bionic knee brace in North America.

The Government of Canada also announced a $2.46m investment in the company via the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s Atlantic Innovation Fund.

Levitation is a compact and light-weight brace, which combines the company's advanced hinge and bionic spring technology.

It can reduce muscle fatigue, enhance strength and performance, by absorbing, storing and then releasing energy in an adjustable way.

Levitation bionic knee brace has been developed to be used by individuals with knee osteoarthritis, knee injuries and athletes, as well as working in the skilled trades.

The company is planning to establish commercial partnerships with clinics, distributors, and brace retailers across Canada to distribute the Levitation bionic knee brace.

Spring Loaded Technology has developed a new knee bracing technology that can be used in a range of applications, including mobility assistance, fatigue reduction, injury prevention/rehabilitation, and performance enhancement.

Spring Loaded Technology CEO Chris Cowper-Smith said: "With the support of ACOA, combined with our research and development efforts and leading-edge product development, it's a game changer.

“We're proud to be able to put the world's first and only compact, bionic knee brace into the hands of consumers on a large scale."

Dartmouth-Cole Harbour member of parliament Darren Fisher said: "The team at Spring Loaded Technology is transforming the versatility of assistive devices.

"They represent a broader life sciences community working on research that brings solutions to the marketplace.”
